Lyrics for The Call as interpreted by incurable_humanist

The Call Lyrics
It started out as a feeling
Which then grew into a hope
Which then turned into a quiet thought
Which then turned into a quiet word

And then that word grew louder and louder
'Til it was a battle cry

I'll come back
When you call me
No need to say goodbye

Just because every thing's changing
Doesn't mean it's never been this way before
All you can do is try to know
Who your friends are as you head off to the war

Pick a star on the dark horizon
And follow the light

You'll come back
When it's over
No need to say goodbye

You'll come back
When it's over
No need to say goodbye

Now, we're back to the beginning
It's just a feeling and no one knows yet
But just because they can't feel it too
Doesn't mean that you have to forget

Let your memories grow stronger and stronger
'Til they're before your eyes

You'll come back
When they call you
No need to say goodbye

You'll come back
When they call you
No need to say goodbye

I want to say that I really really like this song!!
I like Regina Spektor a lot, but here she sounds just a little bit different, but it suites her.
I don't realy know what it's about, but I just think it's about a joung girl and boy in love, but it's a silent love, one no one knows about.
(Maybe it's a secret love, not allowed to excist?)
But for some reason, the boy have to go away, here for the battle, may be something else. He has to leave her. But yet they know that their love is true and that if they wait long enough at the end, they wil come back together, because it's ment to be.
And finally, everything will be allright..
(like a happily ever after :)

I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it (earlier today in Narnia: Prince Caspian).

For me, this song is about a love that grew accidentally when both lovers are too (probably) scared to admit and they never had the chance to admit.

These are my fave parts:
Just because everything's changing
Doesn't mean it's never been this way before
It's just a feeling and no one knows yet
But just because they can't feel it too
Doesn't mean that you have to forget

This song is AMAZING! It ttly applies to me. I do have one question though, the song says, which then turned into a quiet thought which then turned into a quiet word. In your opinion, what exactly is that word?

this song is absolutely amazing and like wanderluster, i first heard it in Narnia: Prince Caspian. this to me, is a "coming home" song. everyone else will probably say "secret love" but i've been wanting to go back to my old neighborhood for so long, this song kinda fits it, especially at this part:

Now we're back to the beginning
It's just a feeling and no one knows yet
But just because they can't feel it too
Doesn't mean that you have to forget

Let your memories grow stronger and stronger
'Til they're before your eyes

i totally agree with everyone on here about their favorite part. and when it started to play in caspian, i was pretty teary eyed.

but yeah...

But just because they can't feel it too
Doesn't mean you have to forget
Let your memories grow stronger and stronger
Til they're before your eyes

I studied abroad in England for a semester...and I feel like I can't tell my stories to my friends. It makes them jealous and what not, so I rarely get to talk about it...and it's slowly slipping away from me. So this song really hit home for me and I've been listening to it non-stop since I left the movie theater.

Omg lifegrdsten I COMPLETELY understand what you mean!! I studied abroad in Spain this past semester and all of my friends who I made there live far from me now so it's like the only people who would really understand... in a way are gone. Everyone's like "So how was Spain" to which all I can really say is "Amazing" or some variation of that answer. It sucks because it's like there are these 4 months during which I had some of the best times of my life and I can't really share it the way I want to- not that I even really know where to start when I haven't talked to someone much for an entire semester... Anyway, this might sound strange but if you want to talk or anything, I know exactly how you feel!

this is amazing.
and although i'm as much of a romantic as the next guy
since all evidence points to these songs being recorded originally for the movie

i'm gonna have to go with the idea, that this song,
and all the others on the soundtrack
are about exactly what they seem like they're about.

with this song, it seems like the best bet is to take the meaning at face value

i will say though for someone who graduated high school and promptly moved 600 miles away from everything and everyone he'd known.

this song means the world to me.

I think this song was written for the Prince Caspian movie, and some of the lyrics really reflect it.

"But just because they can't feel it too
Doesn't mean that you have to forget"
Has to do with Lucy and her belief.. wait I don't want to spoil the movie for those who haven't seen it..but it has to do with her believing in something and everyone else brushes her off.

And the whole "you'll come back when they call you"...yea, The Pevensies return because Narnia needs them. But that's just my opinion

I first heard this song, as most folks, after viewing the Prince Caspian movie. The first verse really caught my attention to the song.

This song really caught my attention because of this interesting situation in my life. To give a brief summary, I had a crush on this girl in High School, but was too afraid to say anything. 4 years went by, and we never saw or heard from each other. Then one day, out of the blue, I got a private message from her on Facebook, and since then we've been talking almost every day (about 5 months now).

Now, aside from getting the courage to ask her to dinner, there is 1 other problem. I'm in the Military, stationed out in CA, and she's back in my home state of NE. That, and she doesn't know, at least I don't think she does, that I have this Crush on her that "started out as a feeling
Which then grew into a hope
Which then turned into a quiet thought
Which then turned into a quiet word"

i think this song has a lot to do with my life

me and this girl started dating and it started as a feeling and the word "love" grew slowly and slowly and it became our battle cry. but the coils of reality hit both of us and caused us to break up. i still love her more than anything and i think she does to but she just doesnt remember why she did. all she needs to do is find what she wants to do cause she really doesnt know what she wants because she doesnt have a lot of guidance. and when its all over i know that she will love me again.

I am 99% positive that this song was written for the movie (as was Imogen Heap's "Can't Take it In" for the first movie) and it should probably be taken at face value, yeah.

This song is absolutely awesome. Somebody asked what it meant by 'which then turned into a quiet thought which then turned into a quiet word'? It might have meant the next few lines.
'I'll come back
When you call me
No need to say goodbye'
Just a thought and no internet sarcasism there.

Regina Spektor is amazing for this song.
It's perfect and went AMAZING with the movie.

I think this can have duel meanings.
This could be a young couple saying goodbye after one goes off to war.

And I agree, I have pretty sure this was written for the movie.

Beautiful song, I agree with most early posts that this was solely written for the movie...so essentially it may be talkin about the relationship that they had with aslan, which C.S Lewis meant to represent Jesus. In the same way Aslan will come back to them if they simply call on him. Very powerful lyrics.

this song was written for the movie.
you can interpret it the way you want, if it means something to you, but that is just how it is.

it is pretty much just telling the Pevensies story. like starting with their whole journey, including the first movie.
the beginning of the song, that is how it started. then "a battle cry" continuing into Prince Caspian.
and when they call, or like sounding the horn, they will come back.

"Just because everything's changing
Doesn't mean it's never been this way before
All you can do is try to know who your friends are
As you head off to the war"

this is like just because you go back to england, again, it happend before and you came back. and make sure you know who is on your side.

"Now we're back to the beginning
It's just a feeling and no one knows yet
But just because they can't feel it too
Doesn't mean that you have to forget"

and this is like, now that you are back where you started, (england) and only the four of them know what happend doesnt mean they should forget, and pretend like it isnt real.

thats what the song is really about
at least, that is exactly what it was written for it seems

It started out as a feeling

'Til it was a battle cry

^^
the feeling they speak of, that transforms, is NARNIA.
they all feel it, then they hope it, then they think it, then they say it aloud.
when they are there, it becomes a brilliant and thriving cry to all of that world. they are for narnia, for aslan.

and i totally agree with everything the person on top of me said.

I've been listening to a lot of her earlier albums - Songs, 11:11, and a lot of her demos, and I just heard this today. There's such a difference in sound between them, but I love them the same.

It's such a beautiful song, so Narniaesque (which I suppose is why it's in the movie :)) and Regina at the same time.

If this song was written specifically for Prince Caspian, then it fits perfectly. It talks about how Lucy and Edmund will be returning when Aslan calls them, and how nobody except for the Pevensies have the feeling of Narnia yet. I really thought this song had such a lovely, sad sound to it that was perfect for the end of the movie.

i believe this song is talking about war, and what sparks war.
she starts off with how something starts with a feeling then a thought and then a word and how that word grows and grows into a "battle cry" and that to me is how just one thought can spark a revolution which can lead into war.

i think the next stanza or verse is applicable to any person who fights in a war, and she makes it personal "no need to say goodbye" is what she's saying to the person who she loves. she's saying it's okay and that they'll come back soon. and she's talking to this person and saying all you can do is know who truly loves you...and fight for them.

i think with the "pick a star" thing she's just saying that they should have a goal, a light, to fight for

and finally the part about "now we're back at the beginning" is talking about how another war is starting. how people always forget the tragedy and losses and how they are going to fight for one idea- whether it is great and noble or petty and stupid. i think she is saying how we should re-evaluate instead of jumping into war.
"just because they can't feel it too doesn't mean that you have to forget"

the lines that speak most to me are definitely "no need to say goodbye"
that really resonates.

this song basically made the ending of narnia. it was put in at exactly the right moment. :)

This song is awsome. I truly love it. Like most people i heard it in Prince caspian. So i went home, looked it up on itunes, and it was album only. That mad me mad, but the song is so good i bought the whole album for the one song.
Most people think this is about love or something, but if you really think about the song, then the end of the movie, it fits like a piece of a puzzel. There was many wars in narnia, they are sad that they are leaving, and "when they call you," i think is when the narnians will blow the horn again.
Its fits perfectly. She probably made the song just for the movie. For a song just for a movie, this song is substantial!!!!
LOVE IT
p.s does anyone else think of it realated to the movie?

This is just my interpretation of the song. I think it went perfectly with the movie! I loved the movie and whenever I hear this song I get so sad because of the way the ending was. I would be very depressed if I had to leave Narnia. Again, this is just my interpretation of the song; the meanings can be taken an infinite amount of ways and even put into someones life. This is just the way I connected it to the movie. I hope it makes sense cause it does to me! :D

"It started out as a feeling
Which then grew into a hope
Which then turned into a quiet thought
Which then turned into a quiet word

And then that word grew louder and louder
'Til it was a battle cry
I'll come back
When you call me
No need to say goodbye"

I think that part is pretty much describing their hope and love of Narnia and how they wanted to go back but couldnt until Aslan called them. And so this is when they were called and came back.

"Just because everything's changing
Doesn't mean it's never been this way before
All you can do is try to know who your friends are
As you head off to the war

Pick a star on the dark horizon
And follow the light
You'll come back when it's over
No need to say goodbye"

This is when they find out the situation Narnia was in, who was on whos side, and finding out how to solve it. But then when they do solve it and Narnia is at peace again, they have to go back to England and live life until they get called back again.

-Or it could be when they have to leave Narnia. They have to go back to England and live out their lives as normal people, instead of being who they are, the Kings and Queens of Narnia. But Edmund and Lucy get to go back.

"Now we're back to the beginning
It's just a feeling and no one knows yet
But just because they can't feel it too
Doesn't mean that you have to forget

Let your memories grow stronger and stronger
'Til they're before your eyes
You'll come back
When they call you
No need to say goodbye"

So this is when they get there (England) and have to deal with the reality that no one will know what happened, who they really were, and what great place Narnia was. Maybe if Susan and Peter just imagine they are there, it wont be as hard to adjust. But for Edmund and Lucy, its just a matter of time and they just have to keep remembering and theyll be in Narnia again.

Hope this helped someone!

This song makes me think of the graduating seniors that I really got to know in band, and in that way it makes me sad.

But I love this song sooo much. Like most of the songs that Regina sings, the lyrics are simple, but they're so deep and she just brings something to them that makes them come alive.

Sometimes I think it's a love song and sometimes I think it's a song about life and living, but whatever it is, it's terrific.
